John Wetton has had one of the most wide-ranging careers in progressive rock. He has played in the absolute majority of the swelled name calling in prog, in many cases in their classic lineups. His low gear major band experience came when he united Family in 1971. He was featured on two of their albums: 1971's Fearless and Outdoor stage (released the following year). He performed respective functions in the chemical group, merely his master purpose was as bassist. Previous to this group he had recorded with Edward's Hand and Mogul Thrash. He left Family to join Robert Fripp and company in King Crimson, pickings a place that had been antecedently filled by Greg Lake. This would not be the last metre the deuce of them would put back one some other. His tenure with that chemical group was non exceptionally recollective, however, as Fripp disbanded Crimson in 1975. Wetton did, however, contribute to several authoritative Crimson discs (Larks' Tongues in Aspic [1973], Red [1974], Starless and Bible Black, and US Army [1975]). Many Crimson fans consider this to be the ultimate geological era of the group.

Wetton's next move was to Roxy Music, a venture that he actually began patch still with King Crimson. In fact, during his KC fourth dimension he managed to process on several side projects. These projects included two albums with late Yes guitarist Peter Banks; an album with Gordon Haskell; and one each with Eno, Phil Manzanera, Peter Sinfield, and Bryan Ferry. It was Ferry, the founder of Roxy Music, world Health Organization invited him to link up that radical. Wetton toured with them in 1975 and that enlistment resulted in a live record album that was released the following year.

On the face of it non unrivaled to remain in ane home for very long, Wetton hooklike up with Uriah Heep in 1975, recording Return to Fantasy with them that year and High and Mighty the following year. When he left that chemical group, he dependent up with Bill Bruford and Rick Wakeman to form a new radical. That one never got sour the ground, merely Bruford and Wetton unbroken working unitedly, creating UK. During this formative period, though, he worked on trey Bryan Ferry albums and one by Duncan Mackay. The low gear UK phonograph recording was released in 1978. In total he was featured on three albums with the group: that self-titled release, Danger Money, and the live album Night After Night. Both of the latter albums were released in 1979. Even patch working with that lot, he managed to witness the meter to record with Jack Knife and Phil Manzanera on the side.

1980 power saw, among other things, the root of Wetton's solo career. His number one solo disk, Caught in the Crossfire, was released that twelvemonth. During the geological period of 1980 to 1981 he played on two albums by Roger Chapman, one by Philip Rambow, and a Wishbone Ash phonograph recording. In 1982 he hooked up with Carl Palmer, Geoff Downes, and Steve Howe to var. Asia. Their self-titled debut was released that year. He besides arrange in a performance on another Phil Manzanera record album that year. The undermentioned year saw the spill of the second Asia phonograph recording, Alpha. After that record album, Wetton left the group for a short time, replaced by Greg Lake. Lake did a circuit with the group, just and so Wetton came back into the flock. He stayed with the grouping through their adjacent spill, 1985's Astra.

In 1987 he drug-addicted up with Phil Manzanera over again to phonograph record Wetton/Manzanera. The next few long time were subdued for Wetton, with his next projects not coming until 1990. That twelvemonth he was featured on some other Manzanera phonograph recording and deuce releases by Asia. The undermentioned year he released his adjacent solo record album, Jacknife. The next few long time saw little natural process by the bassist/vocalist, until 1994. That twelvemonth power saw his adjacent solo release, Voice Mail, and Aria by Asia. 1995, yet, gave birth to no less than trey new Wetton albums: deuce live ones (Chasing: Live in Japan and Live: Chasing the Dragon) and one studio (Battle Lines). The undermentioned year Wetton assign out some other live record album, Akustika: Live in Amerika. 1997 came some and power saw Wetton working with David Cross and Steve Hackett on deuce albums. He besides arrange out deuce albums with Phil Manzanera. Two more than live discs came out in 1999 (Live in New York and Live at the Sun Plaza Tokyo). He besides worked with Steve Hackett on Darktown and Ian McDonald on Driver's Eyes. Even with all of those projects he still plant time to record another studio release of his have, Arkangel.

The year 2000 sawing machine Wetton over again working with Carl Palmer, forming a young group called Qango. They released their number one album, Live in the Hood, that same year, and Wetton still establish time to play on the record album Martin Darvill and Friends Greatest Show on Earth.
